You think potato chips can’t be mind-blowingly awesome and high class?  Well, this link will PROVE YOU WRONG: http://www.luxirare.com/2009/08/crisp.html

These are single-handedly the coolest chips I have ever seen.

I don’t really like perfume.  Most of the time, it’s too flowery or too cloying or too something.  When I do like a scent, it’s usually something wierd that I wouldn’t wear, like grass (the actual on-the-ground kind, not the other kind.  It totally exists!  Look! http://www.perfumecountry.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GRASS-WOMEN&click=23172 ).

Yesterday, though, I smelled something wonderful.  I was shopping in Sephora, looking to buy some eyeliner, when I saw this:

Oh my goodness, it’s wonderful.  Citrusy and flowery and sweet, but a little tart, like pink lemonade.  I don’t have the vocabulary to describe scents but I know I like this.  So, if I start smelling particularly nice next time you see me (but I always smell wonderful, of course) you’ll know why!

piercing!

Poking around on ffffound.com, I found this picture:

28dab86d0d851ced8b42c7d1302d77b11092e1e2_m

I started off staring at her boobs (speaking as someone who doesn’t find breasts very attractive, I think that boobs in certain situations are very hard to stop looking at.  And that dress counts as a certain situation).  After a moment, however, I was mesmorized by another part of her body: her lips.  Or, more specifically, her pierced lips.

I’m not a big fan of body modification in general, for myself at least. While I love to see what other people get done to their bodies, there are very few permanent alterations that excite me.  I really don’t see the appeal of ear cartilage piercing, for example, and there is no one image I could imagine tattooed on my body forever.  For the last few months, though, I’ve been thinking about getting my nose pierced.  This is such a sterotypical smith thing to do.  Seriously, it’s all over campus.  Still, I really like how they look.  Also, this kind of piercing has the added benefit of making a tiny hole- after graduation, if I want, I can take it out and no one will know.  My mom and my boy approve, provided it’s ’small’ (their words).  Not to sound all rebellious, but muahaha, they can’t stop me once it’s in!  I’ve actually been thinking about rings… a thin silver one.

But this lip stud… damn.  Look how pretty it is!  It doesn’t disrupt the symmetry of her face!  It’s small and tasteful but still an obvious piercing!  Mmm, I love it!  The biggest problem is what kind of hole it would create.  After I take it out, years to come, is it going to be really kind of gross and obvious?  Also, I’ve been reseaching common problems with lip piercings and I definitely see myself as the kind of person who would swallow theirs  (one of my close friends, Rachel, had a tongue stud with similar problems).  Also, it can cause teeth damage if it’s placed badly.  So, hm.

Maybe I’ll just settle for a nose ring.

Really interesting photo essay… how do men portray themselves when they’re feeling their most masculine?  Careful, some nudity, including full frontal, but if that doesn’t bother you I’d definitely check it out.  Here’s the link: http://www.themorningnews.org/archives/galleries/men_at_their_most_masculine/

In other news, I’ve been living the adventures of Dicaeopolis and his family in Athenaze.  Today: wolf attack, getting water from the spring, the story of Theseus.  It’s exciting, people.

card2202

This little card describes so many of my interactions this summer.  I really need to buy her book; I can’t talk about supporting artists if I, y’know, don’t regularly support artists I love.  You can even get it at the Smith bookshop, so I have no excuse.  Anywho, via http://thisisindexed.com/

1.  Skullcrusher Mountain.  As the writer puts it, a song about an evil genius in love.  This is one of those songs I’ll listen to over and over again until I get sick of it but I don’t care, I love it so much.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z53WLtowYBo

2. Flight of the Concords.  I know I’m at least a year behind on this one but I just found them on youtube (I said I was nerdy, not hip).  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmLHOGT0v4c&feature=related

3.  These magnet/measuring spoons are so flipping neat.  ARGH.  I should not be getting this excited about cooking utensils, but look!  LOOK!  http://www.swiss-miss.com/2009/07/magnetic-measuring-spoons.html

4. I’ve been making list after list after list getting ready for Smith in a month!  Some of you might not be list people and find this behavior weird, but I LOVE making lists of what I need to do, what I need, whatever.  I made dozens of pro/con lists when I was trying to figure out where I should go to college (now it seems so obvious that I landed right where I needed to be).  So far I have lists of what textbooks I need next semester, what supplies/clothes I need to buy, what goals I have for next semester, what I need to finish up in August, all the classes I need to complete for my desired concentration/major(s) and my long-term goals for my life.  Neurotic?  Oh yeah.  BUT SO FUN.

5. This picture of Gracie I found again:

So, so cute?  yes.

6. West Side Story is next week.  Being a bad friend (but a good nerd) I saw Watchmen last night instead of going to the One-Act shows (my verdict on Watchmen: good, not as good as the comic, didn’t pass the bechdel test but i didn’t expect that).  So I’m going to make it up by going next week when BEST puts on their musical, which is always fun, plus I’ve never seen West Side Story which will make it extra fun and Natalie and V and all the rest of them are awesome so it’ll be great even though they haven’t blocked it all yet, and wow this is a run-on sentence.

7. DnD next Thursday!  YES.

8.This food blog, because it has the best name of any food blog EVER: http://www.omnomicon.com/

9. My parents bought a squirrel trap!  Muahaha.  It’s not one of those kill-that-evil-rat-creature traps, more like a let’s-be-nice-and-trap-it-then-let-it-free-somewhere-far-far-away one, much to Sam’s disappointment.  However, today it managed to get into the trap, eat the peanuts, then get out of the trap.  Damn.  We think we’re going to go outside and find Gracie stuck in it before we ever catch the squirrel.

10.  I’m off to New London tomorrow for a Smithie-filled adventure!  I’m taking the Amtrak, which is nice and short and I can do my Greek homework, then I’m meeting up with Melanie and her mom to get some delicious seafood, then we’re all off to see some shows.  Not only is Marie acting on one of them, she WROTE a show AND she’s producing one!  She’s an amazing lady!

This week is going to be awesome!
